WITR began as a live series for songwriters and poets in 2002 at AD's Barbeque in Portsmouth. When WITR became a radio show, we ceased to offer a monthly schedule of events. We now offer WITR live events several times a year at various locations.

Writers in the Round will perform songs and poems at a live event with Guy Capecelatro, Craig Werth, Ryan McLellan, Deidre Randall.

Writers in the Round takes to the stage with its latest group of songwriters and poets on Tuesday, August 24th, from 8-10pm at the Blue Mermaid in Portsmouth, NH. Songwriters Craig Werth, Guy Capecelatro III and poet Ryan McLellan, hosted by Deidre Randall, will share songs, poems, and stories in the quintessential, WITR experience.

Since October 2006, Craig Werth, a seacoast native, has served as the accompanist/co-arranger for three-time Juno-winner David Francey. Craig served as co-producer for Francey's "Right of Passage" which won a best album Juno in 2008. He is often on tour with David but is also performing solo shows and working on other creative projects. With the release of "The Spokes Man" Craig will be on the road more as a solo artist in the Fall of 2010. He is one of the founders of Writers in the Round Retreat on Star island and a past songwriting instructor there. He performs primarily with voice, guitars, bouzouki, ukulele, banjo, mountain dulcimer and shruti box.

Guy Capecelatro III is a songwriting force to be reckoned with. His name means King of Thieves in Italian, but you couldn't find a more honest heart if you tried. In addition to his incredibly prolific solo material, he is involved four other bands, at last count. He writes songs that paint pictures and tell stories, producing them on his own record label, Two Ton Santa. He is also a founder of the Writers in the Round retreat on Star island.

Ryan McLellan is a slam poet, a rock-n-roller, a member of the poetry group, Blood on the Floor and an English teacher. He is just returning from competing in the National Poetry Slam 2010 in Saint Paul, MN, followed by a tour in the midwest. His energy and presence are equal only to his anxiety and his love of words, music and birds. As he says in a Haiku on his Facebook page:
We bring poetry
and don't apologize for
bringing poetry.

This show is hosted by Deidre Randall, visionary leader of all things Writers in the Round, who will contribute a sound system, some songs and poems of her own, but mostly will sit back and let these amazing guys, yes they are all guys, entertain and astound you all. The Blue Mermaid guarantees intimacy and great salsa. It's a Tuesday night in late August, come on, what else have you got to do?
